It seems so long ago I was last in Nepal. Time flies when you’re having fun... I clearly wasn’t much fun in Uganda.
I’ve wanted to write a blog for weeks now. Forget writers block - I’ve had writers barricade.
What unfolded in Uganda was an unexpected chain of events, fuelled by deceit on behalf of those we trusted with the lives of thirty nine vulnerable children.
Maybe until now I’ve wanted to avoid re-living such a heartbreaking experience. Maybe I didn’t want to be the bearer of such news. Maybe I was just too tired at the end of every day.
It had been two and a half years since my last trip to Uganda. Never would I have imagined that I would be dealing with a stomach turning case of child profiteering a second time around!
As I reflect on the last few months I still can’t quite believe it.
Witnessing torment and anguish in children’s eyes after years of displacement, confusion and fear is a memory that will ever leave me.
Being a part of rescuing children from such an uncertain, dangrous future is one of the greatest privileges of my life.
Knowing that so far thirteen out of the thirty nine children have been reunited with their families or placed in a safe haven where the best possible care will be provided is both a huge relief and a joy.
With a highly experienced, dedicated team of professionals on the ground I know it won’t be long before all thirty nine children are exactly where they’re meant to be.
Such a positive outcome thus far would never have been possible if it wasn’t for the unwavering support of Forget Me Not Children’s Home who have stood by these children every step of the way on this tumultuous journey.
There’s a saying... “It’s not what happens in life that matters - it’s how you handle it’ When faced with the challenges presented recently in Uganda FMNCH as an organization have proven to be nothing less than a warrior for children’s rights.
I have been deeply moved and inspired by Forget Me Not’s compassion and commitment to children in need. Such an outcome is also testament to a support network as strong as steel and sponsors spanning the globe who genuinely share in the FMNCH mission.
Here’s to the future and all it now holds for the lucky children in Uganda under Forget Me Not’s wing.
Forget Me? Forget Me Not? Forget Me? Forget Me Not?
Forget these children…? Never!
Waaao! what a well drafted story..
