Day 4 Texas to Stanthorpe
Monday morning was a little more pleasant with no ice on our tent and a beautiful clear day for our long hilly 101km ride from Texas to Stanthorpe. Lars left before the rest of the team as he left Claz and Les to pack up due to his apparently sore knee. Dan and Trudy got their tent packed up and hit the road while Claz and I were in the last 10 to leave. No warm up along the flats as it was straight into the long upward climb out of Texas with flowering wattle sprinkeled along the road and breath taking views to the south along the border regions. After our first smoko stop at 30km Claz went in to buy us some nice home baked cookies and he come back with what he called quiche trying to convince me yea yea brew it's good protien when all I wanted was some good home baked cookies. So of we go another 3 km and saw a sign to Glenlyon dam 25km one way and thought what a great idea we will do that just to get some km's up on Lars.By the time Claz and Les got back on to the main highway we were the last of the cyclist so it was head down to make it to the lunch break before it closed and mean while Lars by this time was in Stanthorpe at the local bar having a few beers and Dan and Trudy doing a fantastic effort through the hills. By the time Claz and Les made it through to Stanthorpe and 156km behind us Lars had staggered back from the bar and put up our tent which was fantastic to arrive to see as by this time Claz and Les had not alot of energy left and Dan and Trudy also setting up camp for a couple of chilly nights in Stanthorpe after a fantastic effort by all. That night we were entertained by James Blundell live which was absolutely fantastic to hear as this is his home town. All in all it was a great day had by all the for get me not team.
