$26,000 raised for Forget Me Not Eco Village!

A cool evening at beautiful Bilgola Beach NSW saw Spring Fever take hold. The event was hailed a major success for the event Director Janet Smith and her committed team. The event was also utilized as a young leadership platform for 5 Duke of Ed participants. The 5 boys researched the effects of poverty in a developing nation such as Nepal. They had the opportunity to practically demonstrate their learning through compassion in action by assisting with the production of a charitable event.
Spring Fever was a grand outcome for the Eco Village Project in excess of $26000.00 raised. The good will generated and new friends for Forget Me Not Children’s Home, was apparent at the event. We are most grateful to Janet Smith for this wonderful event and to all who contributed to its success.

FMNCH are excited to announce the launch of the Forget Me Not Families project - India, a community based initiative in association with Lakshya Aakriti Children’s Home India (LACH) designed to lift twenty three extremely vulnerable children between the ages of one month to sixteen years of age out of a recurring cycle of poverty and suffering that has spanned three generations.
The children of Kalyanpuri Slum live in appalling conditions and currently suffer from chronic malnutrition and have no access to education.
Funds from the Yogis Unite for Orphans fundraiser held earlier this year will be mobilized within the next two months to kick start Stage 1 of this unique outreach project that will provide the opportunity for eight families to change their lives for the better, forever Forget Me Not style. Andrea Nave, Kate van Doore and Eva Capozzola will visit the LACH partnership project in December 2012.

Riding to success – Cycle Queensland

Forget Me Not was very lucky to be the charity of choice for the Cycle Queensland Gayndah to Noosa ride.

September saw almost 1000 Bicycle Qld cyclists come peddling into
Beautiful Hervey Bay on their Citrus to Sea ride (Gayndah to Noosa).
Cycle Qld nominated Forget Me Not Children's Home as the charity
of choice for their 2012 ride.
We had 4 mini events over 3 days with a rest stop stall in Dundowran on
Tuesday for approx 400 cyclists as well as a sausage sizzle and
merchandise stall at seafront oval.  On Wednesday evening, 16 enthusiastic
FMN volunteers assisted with the catering for the cyclists. Finally, Thursday
morning was a rest stop stall at Dundathu with around 400 cyclists calling in on
their way out of town towards Noosa.
Many thanks to the volunteers who baked cakes, slices,
biscuits, sizzled the sausages and gave of their valuable time.
Particular thanks to Doug & Maggie Manning, Judy Bloom & Tamsin Olsen.
Their fabulous consistent efforts contributed to the great success of the
Cycle Qld events!
The total amount raised was $10,568.36.

NANNA PROJECT

Prossy gains independence through learning to use a cane

We've had a busy month at the Nanna Project continuing fundraising efforts for Nasif's Vision and preparations for Mel's (project co-ordinator) return to Uganda next month.  Following the movie night, the team have been busy selling chocolates and raising awareness about Forget Me Not and the Nanna Project at lectures at Griffith University Gold Coast and collecting loose change from students showing how small change makes a big difference.  Currently we've raised over $1500 and we are well on our way to ensuring a bright and self reliant future for Nasif through vocational training.
Sponsors have also been busy preparing photos, letters and in some cases small gifts for the kids.  One sponsor who deserves special mention is Cheryl Kenny who with her grand daughters have made 40 bracelets for their sponsor child Proscovia Namwange (Prossy) and her school peers.   Cheryl and her husband Pete originally took on sponsorship of Prossy because she has a big heart but also so she could involve her granddaughters in the sponsorship and teach them about helping others.  The girls are always excited to get updates about Prossy's progress.  Prossy suffered from a massive brain abscess at about age 11 and had surgery to remove the abscess and a large portion of brain that was also affected.  The pressure from the abscess damaged the nerves in her eyes and as a result she was left blind.  Prossy's sponsorship commenced once she was well enough to return to school.  She now needed a specialised school that would provide for her academically and teach her life skills and how to adjust to her loss of sight.  Since sponsorship Prossy has progressed in leaps and bounds, she has been learning to read and write Braille, she has also learnt to walk with a cane and manage daily duties.  She loves music and enjoys listening to the radio that Cheryl and her family sent from Australia last year.  Prossy is full of life and will love to receive the bracelets and share the gift with the other children in her boarding quarters who are all vision impaired.  Cheryl and the girls made the bracelets sensory by adding variations in shape and texture.  This very generous and heartfelt gift will be sure to put huge smiles on the faces of the children.  By providing bracelets for the other children we will avoid jealousy and further endear Prossy's peers to her.
